i'm pinkfuzzysounds, a nerdy music lover and a musician who makes fuzzy sounds of her own sometimes. i love keeping track of all of the cool songs that i find and i wanted to make this website as a way to share my favorite music with you. my hope is that you'll leave this place with some awesome new music to check out!
below are a bunch of questions that'll hopefully help you to get to know me a bit better.
the only requirements is that it has to have that noisy, distorted, fuzzy texture in it somewhere, and i have to like the song personally. most of the time the songs are shoegaze songs but it can be any other genre as well as long as it has that texture. (so no, it's not a shoegaze button, it's a fuzziness button basically.) i could base it off the actual color of the song, since sometimes i associate songs with certain colors, but then that would be way too limiting because i don't associate too many songs with the color pink. so for all the synesthetes out there, just ignore how it says "pink" alright? :]
i have to admit that in the grand scheme of things i still am fairly new to all of this stuff. i really started my journey into music in early 2024. one day i just told myself that i was gonna listen to as much music as i possibly can, and i'm still as committed as i was then to doing that so Hooray!!!!...
anyways, in the beginning when i was still extremely new on my journey, i started out by listening to pop music for the most part. stuff like Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Björk, Paramore... but then all of a sudden in like July 2024, i don't really remember exactly how, but somehow i felt like i had to listen to Loveless. i know, it sounds so random, but i guess i was just seeing it everywhere on those music websites since it's always rated so highly. and also. the album cover was pink. and pink is my absolute favorite color in the world, literally ever since i could see it with my eyes i was just like yeah i love pink! so obviously upon seeing Loveless and its beautiful pink cover i felt drawn in like a magnet. idk, when i think about it now i just feel like that album just flew into my life once i began digging into music and it hasn't gotten unstuck from me ever since. it's like it was meant to be :D and also sometimes it feels surreal that i've only been listening to them for like 2 years. it feels like i've known this music forever.
and also, i heard a snippet of When You Sleep before i actually went to listen to the whole album, and that was probably the weirdest moment i ever had listening to new music. when i heard that iconic main riff, i just sat on my bed for like 5 minutes trying to figure out where i heard it before because it felt SO familiar for some reason, even though that was the first time i had ever heard the song in my life. so ummm. that definitely put it in my head to listen to it too.
the first time listening to Loveless was weird. i had this feeling for like weeks that i needed to listen to it but i kept putting it off because i was like "oh, it isn't the right time, you'll listen to it later", but one night i was just like "screw it" and pressed the play button. and a funny thing happened when i did that because i listened to Only Shallow and then the power went off in my house due to a storm outside, and since i was still using Spotify back then that meant the internet went out, and my music was gooone. so i had to figure out how to get the internet back to keep listening to it. and throughout that first listen i didn't really feel too much from it. i think i was overthinking it too much.
i did a second listen of Loveless on that same night, though, because i got this awesome idea to just listen to it as i fell asleep. and then BOOM. it all made sense. and i was saying to myself, "hey, maybe i could listen to this every night! that was pretty cozy and cool!"... and now, 2,000 scrobbles later, yeah that was some major foreshadowing lol
and yeah after that, it took a few months but eventually i got fully converted into a crazy mbv fan. and now i cannot escape AAAAAAHHHHHH
ever since then i've been trying to dig as deep into this kinda music as i can, listening to piles and piles of albums that are labelled as "shoegaze". (you can see every shoegaze album i've ever listened to using this list!)... my 2nd ever shoegaze album after Loveless was Sky Hundred by Parannoul, and after that i listened to mbv's blue album, Lush's Spooky, and Isn't Anything.
well my favorite band of all time, not just in the realm of shoegaze, is probably always gonna be my bloody valentine. i don't see that changing anytime soon. but some of my other favorite artists that make shoegaze include Scott Cortez of lovesliescrushing and astrobrite, Candy Claws, TAGABOW, Full Body 2, Flying Saucer Attack, Curve, Lush, and Swirlies. i generally tend to lean more towards the noisier side of the genre rather than the dreamy side. the more interesting and crazy the guitar tone, the better!
you can see the list of all of my favorite shoegaze/albums EPs by clicking the link to the shoegaze list that i mentioned above!
this is such a hard question for me, because i feel like almost all of their songs have each hit extremely hard for me at certain times. but i have managed to list a top 5, which i guess i'll go through right now.
Wonder 2: this song has always stood out to me because of the AIRPLANES!!!! this has got to be one of the most immersive, all-encompassing songs i've ever listened to. and for me to say that means a ton, because almost all of their songs are super immersive, but this song takes it to another level in my opinion. i remember the first time i heard it, i was just sitting by computer staring at the screen, completely agape and i couldn't believe what i was hearing in the slightest. i felt like i was in the middle of a airport runway, just trying to enjoy some MBV tunes while simultaneously trying to not get run over by ginormous airplanes speeding all around me. nowadays, though, when i listen to this song it really makes me feel like i'm flying in some sorta magical space-tunnel. this song has an unbelievable sense of motion and flight to it. oh yeah and the vocal melody too?????? i think Kevin was inspired by The Beach Boys for the melody and you can hear it. sometimes i speed it up in my head and just sing the melody because it's so fun... "i... moving your eyes, up, close, too, soon,.... seee all the wayyyssss... only lovveeeee youuuuuu..." oh yeah, and recently i listened to song while in an airport!!!! and it was awesome, my life is complete now. (though it would be even more complete if they could tour the US... sigh...)
Soon: i've said this was my favorite song on the last.fm page for this song. and honestly idk if it still is, but either way, this song is absolutely unbelievable. the dancey groove and bass line is so awesome. and the vocals!!! all of the vocals on loveless are godlike but the the vocals on this song just do something to me. i love the structure of this song too and the way the vocal part comes back over and over again. sometimes i get really into it and i forget the vocals are coming back, and when they jump back in all of a sudden it's the best feeling in the whole world. and the melted guitar tones during the vocal part are just... i have no words. of course it's good throughout the song, too, though. the way it just leaves you floating in it for a few minutes towards the end made me feel like i was seeing god or something once like goddddaaaammmnnn
What You Want: i feel like i don't really have a clear reason as to why this one is one of my favorites besides it just being a good song. this one has always spoke to me a lot. and of course the coda at the end is so nice, too... the way it leads into Soon is perfect. i made a cover of this song too.
Who Sees You: this song is one of the most emotional songs i've ever listened to. it's made me start ugly crying more than once... the chord progression on this in the verses is the best thing in the world, it's such a long progression that it almost feels like climbing up a hill or something idk, extremely hypnotizing, it pulls you into its world and doesn't let you leave. and the guitar solo... mbv rarely does guitar solos like this, but this one might be the best one i've ever heard.
Moon Song: i always say this song changed my life. it's a dark ballad under the light of the moon... bongos all around, very intimate. it feels very romantic but there's also a lot of sadness too. this is definitely my favorite song with kevin's vocals on it... i can't listen to this one too often because of how powerful the emotions are here. also, RYM user a2jbeav described the song like this and i loved the way he put it so much: "I have no idea what music the ancient Druids enjoyed but it's not hard to imagine Shields slurring words on top of Stonehenge on a moonlit night."
my main two ways of listening to music are by using Musicbee on my PC, and Musicolet on my Android phone. i listen to all of my music using either local files or YouTube music for stuff i haven't yet downloaded. i also have a little CD collection as well, you'll be able to look at all of my physical media on that page of the website once i get to adding that. but for now, you can take a look at my Discogs to see what i have.
something that has always baffled me is when poeple say stuff like, "oh, mbv isnt really good at writing songs, but their textures and atmosphere are really good!"... what makes mbv my favorite band is how they combine both pop melody and otherwordly textures together to make songs that are powerful, memorable and beautiful at the same time. yes, you can hum along to loveless. i've done it many many many times. i sing along to the melodies and everything. it gets stuck in my head too!
if you really wanna see how good mbv is at writing songs, check out covers where they strip the songs down and hear how beautiful they still sound. here's a few covers that i like:
anything with bread and cheese.
i'm trying to learn how to play guitar i guess. i also like playing Minecraft while i listen to new albums, i've had a forever world on there since summer 2025. i also enjoy writing things and... making this website could also count as a hobby too!
i like cloudy, moody weather a lot. rain on meeeeeeeeeeeeee rain i love rain i love water yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
yknow speaking of water ive had this theory for a while that the reason i like shoegaze music so much is because it feels like being submerged in a giant ocean of sound. and i've always been drawn to water so i feel like that makes a lot of sense to me. it's comforting.
idk! i've always loved DIY old internet kinda stuff, customizing webpages, so i guess i just ended up here eventually. i love how i can literally just make this website about me yapping about my favorite band for 500 hours and no one on here will even bat an eye.
i've only been to one right now. it was for Magdalena Bay's imaginal mystery tour. it was peak highly recommend seeing them. perfect first concert.
aha good question. i'd say... Music Has the Right to Children by Boards of Canada, Since I Left You by The Avalanches, Quebec by Ween, Teen Dream by Beach House, Speak For Yourself by Imogen Heap, Chuck Person's eccojams, Titanic Rising by Weyes Blood, When The Pawn by Fiona Apple, and Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.
one or two of those albums have fuzzy parts in them though so oops just ignore that
